Isatins undergo a one-pot Wolff-Kishner like reduction with hydrazine hydrate, under surprisingly mild conditions, to give the corresponding oxindoles: Synth. Commun., 24, 2835 (1994).
Reaction with acid anhydrides or condensation with 4-Methyl-2-pentanone,results in the formation of quinoline-4-carboxylic acid derivatives; for examples, see: J. Med. Chem., 35, 4893 (1992); 36, 617, 3286 (1993).
